Tver → Gatchina

The Sovereign's Road

The legendary route connecting Moscow and Saint Petersburg. Along this road, the magnificent carriages of the Romanovs once raced. Here, imperial travel palaces, postal stations, and taverns serving the royal family's favorite dishes were built. The first Russian travel guide was also dedicated to the Sovereign's Road. You can still travel along this historic route today: see provincial estates, stroll through landscaped parks, learn about folk crafts in museums, and sample old Russian cuisine. The route follows the M-10 federal highway and unites four regions: Moscow, Tver, Novgorod, and Leningrad Oblasts.
