6th Army Embankment

About

A promenade on the left bank of the Vologda River. Here lies an entire collection of architectural gems. Its greatest treasure is a chain of old churches and merchant mansions from the 17th–19th centuries, each marked with a commemorative plaque. Views of the river, old bridges, and the opposite bank create magnificent panoramic shots. The most photogenic sites: the bright Church of the Assumption on Navolok, the austere Church of the Presentation of the Lord, and the Church of Dimitry Prilutsky with its ancient frescoes. Don’t miss the Barsh Mansion, featured in old Russian films; the Maslennikov House with its anchors; and the Vitushechnikov Mansion, where Emperor Alexander I once stayed. The best time for photos is morning and evening, when the soft light highlights the details of the facades.
