Ak-Burkhan Buddhist Temple

A unique place of worship on the banks of the Mayma River A small yet atmospheric wooden temple located on the banks of the Mayma River. Its name translates as "White Burkhan", the supreme deity of Burkhanism, a unique Altai faith that emerged in the early 20th century as a national spiritual movement rejecting shamanic animal sacrifices. Today, the temple serves as the spiritual center for Buddhists across the Altai Republic. Visitors come here for religious services, festivals, and guidance from the resident lama. The temple is known for its welcoming atmosphere and is open to all visitors.
