Cathedral of Saint Alexander Nevsky

About

One of the city's iconic landmarks. It is one of the first stone buildings of Novonikolayevsk (the name of Novosibirsk before the Revolution). The cathedral is built on an elevation and is visible to all travelers entering the city by train or river. The interior preserves historic elements: Byzantine brick ornaments, ceramic tile floors, and an iconostasis. The cathedral houses several relics. In the right chapel is an icon of the Iveron Mother of God of Athos, donated by the royal family at the time of the cathedral’s foundation. In the left chapel is an icon containing a relic of Saint Prince Alexander Nevsky.
