Curonian Spit

About

This narrow, long strip of land separates the Curonian Lagoon from the Baltic Sea. In the past, the area was home to the Baltic tribes of the Curonians, and Prussian kings hunted moose and deer here. It wasn't until the 19th century that dunes began encroaching on the Curonian Spit’s forests. Be sure to visit the mystical Dancing Forest — the trees' trunks bend at unexpected angles, and the cause of this natural anomaly is still unknown. Climb the Petsh dunes, the Mueller Height, and the Efa Height to enjoy the pine forest and sea views and learn about beach reinforcement to prevent erosion. Stop by the "Fringilla" station to learn about bird migration and the work of ornithologists.
