Monument “The Cossacks Write a Letter to the Turkish Sultan”

About

This sculpture recreates the famous painting by the great Russian artist Ilya Repin. It is designed so that visitors can sit beside the characters. The historical context of the painting refers to the late 17th century, when the Cossacks of the Zaporizhian Sich fiercely resisted Ottoman rule. The letter they are writing to the sultan became a symbol of their independence and spirit of defiance.
