Novosibirsk State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater (NOVAT)

About

The main architectural symbol of the city. In 1937, a model of the Novosibirsk Theatre building won the Grand Prix at the World Exhibition in Paris, and its construction became innovative not only for the city but for the entire country. The theatre has a unique dome only 8 cm thick. The dome’s roof is made up of a thousand iron scales. The theatre can be visited as part of an organized tour. Inside, the Stalinist Empire-style interiors are also impressive: colonnades in the main hall with copies of ancient statues, a gallery above the amphitheatre, and velvet curtains. The theatre has two stages: the small stage with 349 seats in white tones looks airy. The large stage, with 1,449 seats, is executed pompously in bright red and white tones. Don’t forget to look up: the ceiling is crowned with a 6-meter diameter crystal chandelier!
