This is the historical part of the city and its oldest district. While strolling, admire the churches built in the Old Russian style from the 17th to the 19th century. The centerpiece of the ensemble is the Dormition Cathedral: modeled after a church in the Moscow Kremlin and adorned with a Baroque carved iconostasis. The Prokopievsky Cathedral was created by a local master. Nearby stands the stone Church of St. John the Righteous. In the evenings, the illumination turns on, making the courtyard look especially beautiful.
