About
A wooden cathedral rising above the city, it is the spiritual heart of Orthodox Christianity in Altai. Built in the style of traditional Northern Russian wooden architecture. The design is based on the concepts of architect Pyotr Baranovsky, the renowned restorer of the Moscow Kremlin and the Andronikov Monastery. The church houses the relics of St. Macarius (Glukharev), a missionary and educator of Siberia who is widely known as the "Apostle of Altai." The church grounds include a Sunday school, a refectory, and a chapel. A major pilgrimage destination and one of Gorno-Altaysk's architectural gems.
