About
The central square of Kostroma The classic facades of the Trading Rows form a white-stone semicircle, and the Fire Watchtower rises to the sky with an elegant spire. Next to the square, there is a park with a monument to Ivan Susanin. It reminds of the peasant’s feat of saving Tsar Mikhail Fyodorovich from the Polish-Lithuanian squad. Historians still debate the reality of this feat, but for Kostroma, Ivan Susanin remains a symbol of devotion and courage. In photos, this square looks especially impressive: the symmetry of the architecture creates a perfect background for selfies.
