Tula Kremlin

The history of the Tula Kremlin spans more than 500 years. This fortress was built to defend the city and was never captured by an enemy. The Kremlin grounds include the Holy Dormition Cathedral, the Epiphany Cathedral, and an exhibition complex. The main highlight of the local exhibition is a detailed model of the Kremlin as it appeared in the 17th century. Its scale is impressive: the historic appearance of the city has been reduced exactly 130 times. The fortress grounds still preserve 19th-century trading arcades. Tula State Museum of Weapons

Tula has been a center of arms manufacturing in Russia since ancient times. That is why, since the reign of Peter the Great, it has been customary to preserve outstanding examples of weapons “for remembrance and eternal glory.” They became the foundation of the museum established at the Tula Arms Plant. The museum displays a wide range of weapons used by European armies from the 14th to the 20th century. These include a hussar saber, several cannon barrels cast in the 18th century, and the legendary Nagant revolver associated with the revolutionary era. Tula-based manufacturers also display weapons that were the pride of the Soviet Army. Take part in a workshop on assembling and disassembling replica weapons.

“Patriot” Park

The “Patriot” Park in Tula became the first regional counterpart of the military-patriotic “Patriot” Park in Moscow Region. The Congress Center stands on the main avenue, with the sculptural composition “To the Polite People” located to the left of the building. The first floor of the Congress Center houses a branded store of the Voentorg chain, the second floor contains an assembly hall, and the third floor features a large conference hall. The Museum of the Defense of Tula is also located on the grounds. The Museum of the Defense of Tula displays replicas of Maxim machine guns, examples of small arms, and artifacts donated by search teams, as well as reconstructions of city streets, workshops, and offices. The unique museum displays use a fully immersive approach to recreate the atmosphere of a besieged city fighting the enemy.

“Tula Samovars” Museum

A 19th-century mansion presents the history of the famous Tula craft from 1778 to the present day. The museum’s three halls explain how the Lisitsyn brothers opened the first samovar workshop and how Tula became Russia’s leading producer of samovars. Here, you can see an 18th-century sbiten pot — the predecessor of the samovar used to prepare a honey-based drink — as well as unique exhibits ranging from a 70-liter giant to a tiny samovar holding just three drops of water.

Kulikovo Field State Museum-Reserve

The Kulikovo Field Museum-Reserve covers 7,556 hectares and is located across three districts: Kimovsky, Kurkinsky, and Bogoroditsky. It includes the site of the Battle of Kulikovo itself, six specially protected natural areas, museum and memorial complexes in the village of Monastyrshchino and on Krasny Hill, as well as 28 archaeological and historical monuments. Kulikovo Field is the site of the historic Battle of Kulikovo, which took place on September 8, 1380, when united Russian regiments led by Moscow Prince Dmitry Ivanovich, known as Dmitry Donskoy, defeated Mamai’s army.

Leo Tolstoy Museum-Estate “Yasnaya Polyana”

Fifteen kilometers from Tula lies Leo Tolstoy’s estate — the only writer’s estate in Russia to have preserved its historic appearance. The great novelist spent most of his life here and wrote War and Peace and Anna Karenina. The memorial house with its authentic 1910 interior, the famous Preshpekt birch avenue, apple orchards, ponds, and parks recreate the atmosphere of the 19th century. Walking routes have been laid out across the estate grounds. Centuries-old trees, picturesque avenues, forest paths, and ponds — today, travelers are surrounded by the same scenery that inspired Tolstoy throughout his life.
