Next to the Memorial to the Defenders of the Soviet Arctic stands the Alley of Hero Cities. Beneath each stone slab lies a capsule containing soil from the corresponding Hero City. Thirteen cities of the former USSR were awarded this honorary title for their heroic resistance during the Great Patriotic War. Here you’ll find 13 memorial slabs commemorating Leningrad, Odessa, Sevastopol, Volgograd, Kyiv, Moscow, Kerch, Novorossiysk, Minsk, Tula, Murmansk, Smolensk, and the Brest Fortress.
