Cathedral of the Ascension of the Lord

About

A snow-white seven-domed cathedral, 52 meters high, built in the style of Old Russian architecture. The church was built in the tradition of the cross-in-square churches of the pre-Mongol period of the Russian state. A cross forms the foundation of the church, while the dome rests on pillars — a construction style used in ancient Byzantine architecture. The building is 42 meters high. Its central section rises upward, as if reaching for the sky. Slender columns in the center of the façades emphasize the building’s lightness and elegance. The seven domes symbolize the seven sacraments of the Church. The interior and exterior of the church are richly decorated with paintings depicting biblical scenes.
