An exhibition at the Literary and Art Museum of A. P. Chekhov’s Book The Island of Sakhalin. Step into the atmosphere in which A. P. Chekhov created his work and see authentic objects from that era, from a grand piano to editions of 19th-century classics. Of particular value are the memorial gifts donated by Valentina Chekhova, the widow of the writer’s nephew, who was an artist, as was his son. The graphic works by Sergei Mikhailovich and Sergei Sergeevich were inspired by their journey across Sakhalin in Chekhov’s footsteps and are now part of the museum’s interior. An inkwell and a photo album recall Lydia Avilova, a writer from Chekhov’s literary circle, while an old Japanese brick was discovered when the foundation for the museum’s new building was being laid.
