About
It houses a local history museum The museum has more than 89,000 exhibits: archaeological finds and military relics. The fortress has three museum halls. The first hall is dedicated to the history of the resort from ancient times to the present. Here, you’ll see ancient weapons and women’s jewelry of the mountain people. The exhibition tells the story of the construction of the Kislovodsk Fortress, the birth of the resort, and the first vacationers — the Kursovy. You will also see household items and clothing from various times and peoples — mountaineers, Cossacks, and Russian settlers. The exhibition in the second hall is dedicated to the Great Patriotic War, when Kislovodsk became a major hospital: more than 20,000 beds were available. In the third hall, you will learn about the natural riches of the region. 850 million years ago, the area was covered by the Tethys Ocean. You’ll see fossilized remains of marine creatures and plants, as well as traces of giant animals — southern elephants, dinosaurs.
