One of the largest open-air museums in Russia From the Petrozavodsk pier, in summer, boats called "Komety" transport visitors to Kizhi Island, while in winter, hovercrafts cross the ice. The island features a wooden architectural ensemble, built between the 17th and 19th centuries, and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. One of the most famous landmarks is the wooden Transfiguration Church with 22 domes, which is said to have been built "without a single nail." You can explore the island's attractions independently or with a guided tour.
