Koltso Mountain

About

One of the most unusual natural landmarks in Kislovodsk The round hole in the rock truly resembles a ring — which is why the mountain is called Koltso (“ring” in Russian). According to an old legend, the passage in the rock was made by a shepherd who pierced the summit with an arrow. In doing so, he won the heart and hand of the princess, impressing the girl and her powerful father. In reality, the "ring" is a natural landmark. The cave was created by winds that have eroded the rock for millions of years. This is a popular tourist location near Kislovodsk: it’s about 15 minutes by car from the city.
