Kostroma Kremlin

About

The heart of the city The first stone cathedral on the territory of the Kremlin was built during the reign of Ivan the Terrible. Today, on the site of the city fortress, the Bogoyavlensky Cathedral has been recreated, and a new bell tower has been erected, where the “Soborny” bell weighing 16 tons — the largest in Russia — rings. Technically, there is no Kremlin in Kostroma today — this term refers to the recreated cathedral built according to old blueprints and photos, which quickly became the spiritual dominant of the city.
