A popular hiking destination. The “Mutnovskaya Sopka” volcano is located near Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. It is often called the "cloud factory" — numerous fumaroles (openings in the slopes) "emit" sulfur gases. It takes about 1.5 hours to ascend the volcano. However, the drive from the city takes more than 4 hours. You can only reach the village of Termalny by municipal transport. From there, a rough road leads to the Mutnovskaya Geothermal Power Plant and gold-bearing deposits. Only prepared vehicles can pass, and not always. Therefore, it’s better to choose an organized tour. On the route to the plateau, you’ll pass through the valley of the Paratunka River, near the Viluchinsky volcano to the pass, and then through mountain tundra past the Gorely volcano, through ash fields and volcanic bombs — hardened lava masses.
