"Phanagoria" Museum-Reserve

About

Once, this was the largest Greek polis on the Black Sea coast. Phanagoria was named after Phanagoras, the leader of the settler colonists. Since the time people left the polis, no modern buildings have been constructed on its grounds. Archaeologists have discovered many ancient and medieval artifacts here — and the most exciting finds may still lie ahead. Excavations continue, with research teams working on-site to study, analyze, and classify the discoveries. Take a guided tour and explore the territory of the ancient Greek city. You’ll see the remains of houses, drainage systems, millstones, and numerous everyday items. A constantly updated interactive pavilion displays exhibits that bring the ancient city’s life back to the present.
