The museum's collection features more than 80,000 unique works.
It presents artworks spanning nine centuries of art.
The museum has several branches, but the main building is the Governor’s House, constructed on the order of Alexander I between 1821 and 1823. This was where emperors stayed, and it was the official residence of
Yaroslavl’s governors.
The museum houses an impressive collection of paintings by famous Russian artists of the 18th-20th centuries, including works by Aivazovsky, Bryullov, Repin, Shishkin, Levitan, as well as pieces by Russian avant-garde masters, Soviet and contemporary art.
Then take a walk around the building to the Governor’s Garden. Among the shady alleys, you will find works by contemporary Russian and foreign sculptors. In the warm season, musical evenings and festivals are held here.
